Local field note
Dora was incorporated in 1897 as Horse Creek before it took the name it carries now, and it is home to the Alabama Mining Museum, which is a fair reminder of what this town was built around. That matters to pest work in a practical way. Mining era towns in Walker County were laid out fast, and Dora's housing followed the work, which means a mix of ages and additions on the same street, some with crawl spaces, some on piers, some on slabs, and a good number with a sunken or modified foundation. Termites are the pest that cares most about that mix. Subterranean termites need moisture and a path from soil to wood, and a town with clay soil, humid summers and decades of foundation work gives them plenty of both. If you own in Dora, the useful question is not whether termites are around, it is whether your particular foundation gives them a way in.
